Supporting the construction of Poland’s most modern tram depot.

A much-needed, efficient depot for Warsaw’s trams.

The construction of the Annopol depot has been a hot topic since the 1960s. The depot might never have been created as trams in Warsaw were at one point facing the risk of being liquidated. The cost of building the depot will exceed PLN 300 million (€65 million). The construction is co-financed by EU funds under the Operational Programme, Infrastructure & Environment 2014-2020.

A Depot Management System will be implemented to manage the technological processes of the depot, identification and location of trams, the automatic control of switches and of arriving and departing trams. This should optimize tram traffic to avoid congestion. The System will also be connected to tram washes, diagnostic stations, maintenance stations, and maintenance devices.

One of the key features of the depot is its use of the latest technical solutions to reduce environmental impact. These include solar panels, heat pumps and exchangers, and a rainwater utilisation system for tram washing (in a closed circuit), toilet flushes and plant and grass watering.

BIM, the central project delivery technology.

For the Annopol depot, project management is based on the use of BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology. Together with the Client, we are developing guidelines for applying BIM technology to infrastructure solutions. The General Contractor will present BIM models for various disciplines during the project. We are tasked with verifying the correctness of the delivered models in terms of coherence and internal and external geometric integrity.

Using BIM technology in the implementation of the Contract with the General Contractor will enable the following:

better understanding of the subject matter of the contract by preparing BIM Design Documentation and its ongoing analysis and verification by the Client, the Consultant (Egis) and the General Contractor
visualization of the Annopol depot, enabling identification of potential problems and threats that may arise during the implementation, and introduction of remedial measures at the earliest possible stage
improving communication and construction management and facilitating verification of the assumptions and solutions adopted in the Design in terms of correctness in relation to applicable standards, regulations and technical knowledge through periodic delivery of models by the General Contractor at the CDE platform,
minimizing design and assembly clashes by verification of the Design by the Consultant and the General Contractor
support in the construction process by supplementing the BIM models, periodically sharing and verifying them
creating a project database for the purpose of facility management by making models that take into account the data used at the facility management stage.
