An extensive metropolitan tram network.
In December 2009, the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolitan authority decided to formulate a transport plan for its city region stretching over the following twenty years in order to provide a coherent response to mobility needs in the area. The plan revolves around the creation of a tram network throughout the Greater Nice area, including 3 new lines:
- The east-west line (line T2) running between the port and the airport is 11.3 km long. It includes a 7 km tunnel and 20 stations (4 of which underground).
- The north-south line (line T3) is 5.6 km long and has 13 stations. It runs from the airport to the Var Eco-Valley, a strategic sustainable development project on the Var plain, to the Allianz Riviera stadium.
- The T4 line will be the first to cross the Var and leave the city of Nice. It will be 7.1 km long and run from the Saint-Augustin/Grand Arénas district (adjacent to the future TGV station), within the Nice city limits, to Cagnes-sur-Mer town centre, via Saint-Laurent-du-Var.
LRT line T1, launched at the end of 2007, then lines T2 and T3, fully commissioned in 2019, were designed and built by the Essia consortium, headed by Egis. These lines make up the current light rail network of the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolitan area.
Line 4, built by the TramWest 4 consortium (headed by Egis), will be the next structural light rail line to complete the network in 2026.
Egis, a historical partner to the greater city council and a major design player
From 2010 to 2019, the Egis teams and their partners in the Essia consortium, in charge of the design from earliest studies to commissioning, worked to expertly deliver T2 and T3, two innovative and challenging light rail lines.
The adventure is set to continue for Egis with the T4 line, alongside its partners in the TramWest 4 consortium and the city authority, thus completing the transformation of the metropolitan region and significantly improving mobility and quality of life for the population.
