Ensuring the safety of people, property and natural environments.
As part of the EcoCité’s development policy, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has a real-time hydrological risk monitoring and management system to reduce the consequences of floods.
The uniqueness of the context lies in the combined concentration of hydrological risks and protection issues. On the one hand, the hydrological risks affecting the area of the EcoCité are of various kinds (overflowing of waterways, overflowing of the urban rain network, marine submersion), on the other hand, the population and the equipment to be protected are numerous and particularly vulnerable: residential areas, transport networks (including tram and airport), roads, parks and business areas.
The city is implementing an innovative system to anticipate all hydrological risks, for frequent to extreme rainfall events, and to best manage the crisis period at the intercommunal level in a collaborative way and in real time.
