Over the years, our mission has ranged from technical assistance with maintaining the existing infrastructure to design and works supervision of major repairs, upgrades and capacity expansion. We have also provided essential support on safety assessment and coordination, as well as change management.
In the early phases we surveyed airport infrastructure, verified aircraft movements and the geometric conformity of the different areas using Aviplan software and used that analysis to identify the maintenance and repair work to be undertaken to aeronautical infrastructure.
We also supported the airport management team by developing maintenance procedures and associated airport safety impact assessments, as well as conducting environmental studies and reviewing overall plans.
Technical assistance has included:
- Measurements and characteristics of the longitudinal runway profile
- Information and geometric characteristics (wingspan, length, maximum weights, aircraft classification number etc) of the most constraining aircraft types to operate on the movement areas and apron
- Technical specifications to enable operational measurements such as pavement classification number and runway friction measurement
- A maintenance programme specifying the type of work and frequency (cleaning of drainage systems, removing rubber, mowing etc)
- Planned measures to ensure the safety of aircraft and of the worksite during maintenance works and major repairs
- Apron plan of the airport
- Obstacle limitation analysis.
Egis has advised SAGP on implementing stringent environmental requirements during the runway refurbishment work, including:
- Defining the environmental measures / requirements to be achieved on the project
- Verifying the integration of these requirements in the specifications of the works contract
- Evaluation of the environmental proposals during the tender analysis phase
- During the works phase, supervising environmental actions and reporting
- Carrying out a provisional carbon assessment of the site based on the project manager's preliminary studies
- Assistance on possible solutions for offsetting the site's carbon footprint.
Project management services have covered maintenance, major repairs and construction of aeronautical infrastructure. This has involved undertaking design studies, providing procurement support, airport safety impact assessment and change management, works supervision and construction management. Most recently it has involved a crucial coordination role to ensure safety of operations during infrastructure works.
