Urgently upgrade municipal services across the country.
In most Ukrainian cities, utility services are struggling to survive and maintain a constant service level, unable to invest in their modernisation or expansion due to lack of public subsidies. With practically no investment since the 1990s, water and district heating networks are now on the brink of collapse and need urgent investment to restore efficiency and address the challenges of climate change by reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, municipal waste management and public lighting services still use antiquated infrastructure and vehicles, and the municipal companies responsible for their management are unable to afford the necessary modern equipment and facilities.
To deal with this financially and operationally challenging situation, the UMIP (Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Programme) is a multi-sector investment programme, funded by the EU Neighbourhood Investment Platform, that aims to support Ukraine’s municipal infrastructure in five sectors: district heating, energy efficiency in public buildings, municipal lighting, water supply, and solid waste management.
Egis has been appointed to support five ukrainian cities in procurement, contract management, and institutional capability building from 2020 to 2026.
