Part redevelopment, part renovation
Egis is project manager for construction work in phases 3 and 4 of the project, together with SRA Architectes.
Redevelopment
Phases 3 and 4 see the resident radio stations taking up their new quarters in the renovated building. At their disposal they have all the facilities necessary for their production needs: offices, control rooms, artists’ hospitality areas, recording studios, and all the technical and mechanical infrastructure essential for their operation.
These phases include the reconstruction of the plinth and the high tier, followed by completion of the external layouts on the side facing the river Seine, including gardens and concourse.
Stripping and structural reinforcement
Work started with a stripping phase designed on the one hand to prepare the existing structure for the planned reinforcement work, and on the other to remove service and utility installations ahead of their refurbishment. This last stage required a meticulous survey of working installations whose continuity in service is essential for Maison de la Radio to keep operating as planned.
The existing structure (columns/beams/floors) also had to be reinforced. After that came the renovation work, with the construction of offices, recording/broadcasting studios (including double height studios), storage areas for instruments, service rooms, hospitality areas and all technical installations necessary for the modernization of the building (air conditioning, smoke extraction, fire detection, automatic extinguishing systems, heavy-duty and low-power circuits, plumbing etc.).
Completion of glazed walkways
Phases 3 and 4, in which Egis participated, included not only the refurbishment of offices, zones B, C, E, F, 101 and 105, completion of soundproofed zones (sound stages and control rooms), renovation of the plinth and the security perimeter, but also the construction of 4 glazed walkways, each 32 metres long, connecting the high tier (which contains the antennas) to the low tier (where common building services are located). These walkways are located on the fifth level of the building, where most radio facilities are accommodated. They make it easier to get around the building and facilitate access to the lifts and staircases at doors B, C, E and F.
