Cutting-edge infrastructure for seamless travel.
The first task on contract start-up was to modernise the toll equipment and roadside infrastructure of the 3 sections of the highway:
- on the Mexico City -Pachuca stretch, the section between Santa Clara and Tizayuca, 46 km.
- on the Mexico City-Tuxpan stretch, the section between Tulancingo and Nuevo Necaxa, 59 km
- on the same stretch, the section between Tihuatlán and Tuxpan, 37 km in length.
The tolling equipment included the upgrades of 6 toll plazas, together with:
- controllers,
- light curtains,
- automatic barriers,
- signalling,
- electronic toll reading antennas,
- and cabin equipment.
We also supervised the installation of intelligent transport systems (ITS) over 142 km, including the optical fibre required to deploy them, together with:
- 3 meteorological stations,
- 109 solar panels, generating 285KWh daily power
- 17 capacity sensors,
- 56 PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras,
- 25 variable message panels,
- 29 Wi-Fi accesses for roadside assistance,
- 21 Queuing systems,
- and equipment necessary for the control centre.
Having initially outsourced all three levels of fixed operating equipment (FOE) maintenance, we reviewed our contracts and in-house expertise, and opted to insource levels 1 and 2, thus achieving 14% cost reductions and increasing our KPI results. These techniques, invented on the Golfo Centro project, are suitable for rolling out on other projects.
