On April 15, Lviv marked the completion of the subproject "Purchase of 10 new 5-section tramcars for Lvivelectrotrans," a part of the broader EUR 200 million "Ukraine Urban Public Transport" (UUPT) project, funded by the European Investment Bank.
The UUPT project aims to modernize Ukraine's urban public transport sector, aligning it with EU standards. This comprehensive initiative encompasses the supply of various municipal transport vehicles, including buses, trolleybuses, metro coaches and trams as well as related infrastructure upgrade.
Egis experts have been providing capacity building support to the Ministry for Restoration, Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine as part of this project. Beyond Lviv, the Egis team has been supporting Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Lutsk, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk final beneficiaries’ project Implementation Unit.
The Lviv trams, all related equipment and services were financed by a EUR 17.4 million loan from the EIB. The supply contract was signed in 2020 and executed in stages between 2021 and 2024. These 10 trams are already serving Route 8, connecting the city center with the Sykhiv residential area.
Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, this sub-project was completed thanks to the dedication and professionalism of all involved stakeholders. These new low-floor trams will enhance green urban transport, accessibility and convenience for the people in Lviv City.
