In the face of the climate emergency and the need to rethink mobility, urban regional express services (SERM) are positioning themselves as an essential solution for decarbonising transport and rebalancing territories. This document, written by Frédéric BIRER and Benoît GUILLOT, highlights the environmental and territorial challenges posed by urban sprawl and the excessive use of private cars.
SERMs offer a strategic response to provide alternatives to carbon-based mobility by developing multimodal transport services in metropolitan areas. They allow users to access an efficient public transport network for all their daily journeys, using several reliable and regular transport solutions, such as trains, express buses, trams or metros, and even car-sharing, through a single ticket or application.
At Egis, we are convinced that multimodal public transport (SERM) is an ambitious and necessary response to the challenges of mobility and decarbonisation of transport in France. To ensure the success of these projects, we propose an integrated approach that we invite you to discover by downloading our position paper.
